Issue:
I got the message "09/12/2003 12:53:10 PM:INFO:Service started successfully: NOCpulse Service - 3.11.0" from my Windows host. What steps to I take to ensure the Service is set up correctly?
Resolution:

Solution:
The Windows service should be running. Expect to see messages in C: \NOCpulse\var\messages at the end of the messages file indicating that there was a handshake failure.

Assuming the installation directory is C:\NOCpulse, follw this troubleshooting procedure:

  1. Verify that the scout key is present in C:\NOCpulse\etc.
  2. If the key is not present, place a copy of the file directly into C:\NOCpulse\etc and restart the service.
  3. If the key was present in step 1, take a look at C:\NOCpulse\var\messages. If the last couple of message indicate a handshake failure or an SSL error, restart the service. It's probably the case that SSL didn't initialize properly, or that for some reason, the host key pair was not recognized.
  4. Use the Windows Event Viewer to look for any "NOCpulse Service" Events. Note the service adds an information event to the event log every time the service is stopped or started. Critical and Warning events should indicate the source of a problem fairly accurately.

If that does not resolve it, forward the entire contents of the file C:\NOCpulse\var\messages as an attachement to a trouble ticket to Red Hat Technical Support.
