Issue:
What is a host and host availability in Command Center?
Resolution:

A host is anything on the network that has an IP address.

The Local Scout sends an ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) ECHO (ping) request to the host and waits for a response. If the Local Scout never receives a response, the host is placed in a DOWN state.

If the host cannot receive ICMP requests then the host should be configured with ICMP blocked. Under this setting, the Local Scout will always assume the host itself is up and will only run the service checks configured for the host.
