Issue:
How do I boot into single user mode using the LILO boot loader?
Resolution:
The LILO boot loader parses the LILO command line as:

<image name> <kernel command line options>
You can boot into Linux single user mode by issuing one of the following commands at the LILO boot prompt. This example assumes the name of your Linux boot target is "linux":

linux S

or

linux single
If you have a graphical splash image from your LILO boot loader, you may need to enter ESC or Ctrl+X in order to get to the LILO prompt.
