Issue:
How do I run the RHN Satellite Server Installation Program?
Resolution:

NOTE Please review the Satellite Install Guide, found under the help section of Red Hat Network (RHN) for complete details.

The following instructions describe how to run the RHN Satellite Server installation program:

  1. Log into the server as root.

  2. Insert the RHN Satellite Server CD containing the installation files or download the ISO image from the Red Hat Network website.

  3. Create a directory in /mnt to store the files with the command:

    mkdir /mnt/cdrom

  4. If installing from CD and it is not mounted automatically, mount it using the command:

    mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

If installing from download, mount the ISO file from within the directory containing it using the command:

    mount iso_filename /mnt/cdrom -o loop

  5. Ensure the Red Hat Network Entitlement Certificate has been copied onto the Satellite. It can be named anything and located in any directory. The installation program will ask for its location.

  6. Unless performing a disconnected Satellite installation, make sure that the Red Hat Network account in use has been granted the necessary entitlements to conduct the installation. For instance, a new Satellite will require a Management entitlement, a Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS and a RHN Satellite Server entitlement.

  7. Launch the RHN Satellite Server Installation Program.

NOTE: Again, please review the RHN Satellite Install Guide found under the help section of RHN for complete details, including screen shots of the installer
