On November 21 2006, the Western Australia government voted to trial Daylight savings time beginning on December 3rd 2006. Red Hat has created a new tzdata package for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1, 3 and 4.
The tzdata package contains data files with rules for various timezones around the world. When this package is updated, it will update multiple timezone changes for all previous timezone fixes.
This package contains the updated 2006 version of timezone data. The changes herein include updates for Western Australia DST rules. Upgrading this package is optional, and is not considered a security flaw.
If the system is connected to the Red Hat Network, run the command:
up2date tzdata
After updating the timezone package, the system must run its timezone configuration package to update the obsolete /etc/localtime file.
In Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1 and 3:
redhat-config-date
In Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4:
system-config-date
