What changes do I need to make to nsswitch.conf for winbind to work?
Resolution:
In order to make to nsswitch.conf work for winbind, change the first three uncommented lines in your /etc/nsswitch.conf file to read: 

passwd:       files winbind
shadow:       files
group:        files winbind
