Issue:
Why is the network throughput comparatively incorrect when using the sky2 driver?
Resolution:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 3

Symptom:

When connected against a port set up in 100M-Half mode, the performance of Marvell's NIC using the sky2 driver experiences degradation compared to other NICs. This was observable on the following configuration.

  • Auto Negotiation
  • 100M Half Duplex mode

When this occurred, a huge number of collisions were also observable.

Solution:

This issue can be improved by the following command.

ethtool -A <ifname> autoneg on

This enables the pause frame negotiation on this card.
