Issue:
How can I configure my RHN Satellite Server to receive channel content updates automatically?
Resolution:

Release found: Red Hat Satellite Server 4, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 AS and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 AS

Resolution:

The Red Hat Network (RHN) Satellite Server comes with the RHN Satellite Synchronization tool, satellite-sync, that enables it to update its database metadata and RPM packages with those of RHN's central servers. By running satellite-sync as a cron job, channel content updates can be received automatically.

To make sure that satellite-sync is able to receive the updates, the RHN Satellite Server has to be in "connected mode" (an Internet connection is required). The following steps will determine if the server is configured in connected or disconnected mode.

  1. Login to the RHN Satellite Web interface.
  2. Click on Satellite Tools from the top menu.
  3. Click on Satellite Configuration from the left menu.
  4. In the Generally Configuration page, ensure that Disconnected Satellite checkbox is unchecked.

To ensure that the server is indeed receiving updates by running the following command:

# tail -f /var/log/rhn/rhn_server_satellite.log
