Issue:
Where is the Red Hat Network (RHN) registration client and what does it do for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Version 3?
Resolution:
The
Red Hat Network (RHN) registration client steps you through the process of creating a user account if you do not already have one and registers your system by creating a system profile.
The
rhn_register command used in past versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Linux, now exists as a mode of the
up2date client. The RHN registration process can be started by using one of the following methods:
- On the GNOME and KDE desktops, go to the Main Menu Button (on the Panel), select "System Tools" => "Red Hat Network."
Note: If the system is unregistered, it will automatically launch in registration process and begin asking information.
- From the command line, execute the following:
up2date --register
Warning: If you already have a Red Hat Network login you do not need to create a new user. You should register your system with the username that was used to purchase the system entitlements with. You can log into the
RHN website with your existing login to verify if you have entitlements associated with that username.
