Issue:
How do I configure my sound card for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3?
Resolution:
Log in from root user in the terminal. At the command line type:
$ su -
After logging in, type:
# redhat-config-soundcard

this should cause systemt to auto-configure the device. It will also give the option to play a test sound that can verify a configuration.

If the auto-detection seemed to work, but you still didn't hear any sound, be sure your sound is not muted. From the command line, type

# gnome-volume-control
Verify that no output devices are muted or adjusted too low to be heard.
