Issue:
I had to re-install my system. How do I re-register my system with Red Hat Network (RHN) and get my entitlement back?
Resolution:
If you do not have multiple entitlements or if all of your entitlements are currently being used, you will need to remove older system profiles from Red Hat Network (RHN). By removing profiles, you will then have entitlements available for other systems.

The most common situation is re-installing a system and then trying to register the system. The profile of the re-installed system will remain on RHN until it is removed. In order to remove this profile and register your re-installed system, follow these steps:
  1. Log the Red Hat Network website.

  2. Click on the "Systems" tab in the top navigation bar, then select the name of the old system in the System List. (The system that was re-installed.)

  3. Click the "delete system" link in the top-right corner of the page.

  4. Confirm the removal of the system by selecting the "Delete Profile" button.

  5. As root at the command line, delete the file (if it exists) /etc/sysconfig/rhn/systemid from your system by running the command rm /etc/sysconfig/rhn/systemid

  6. You can now register your system with the update agent using the command as root: rhn_register (for all versions).

Note: When attempting to re-register, do not enter your subscription number again. This will result in an error. Choose Existing Subscription. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 1 systems should not send their hardware profiles as it will also hang. The hardware profile can be sent after registration.
