Issue:
How can I configure multipathing on a server connected to a fiber channel storage array in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3?
Resolution:
Release Found: Red Hat Enteprise Linux 3

Symptom:
The server is connected to a fiber channel storage array. I have installed two fiber channel adapters in the server so there is more than one path to the external storage. How can I configure multipathing so the data on the external storage is still accessible in the event of a path failure?

Solution:
Beginning with Update 2 of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, the mdadm utility can be used to take advantage of hardware supporting more than one I/O path to individual SCSI LUNs (disk drives). Multipath storage allows for continuous data availability in the event of hardware failure or individual path saturation.

Detailed information on how to set up multipathing using the mdadm utility can be found in the Update 2 Release Notes.

Some storage hardware manufacturers have their own multipathing solutions in place. You can also check with them to see what they have available.
