Issue:
The installation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 does not recognize the Adaptec U320 HostRAID Controller in my Dell system. Is there a driver for this adapter?
Resolution:
Release Found:Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 through Update 2

Symptom: The installation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux fails to detect the Adaptec 39320 add-in SCSI controller on Precision Workstations and PowerEdge servers and the integrated AIC-7901 SCSI controller on the Precision 670.

Solution: Install Red Hat Enterprise Linux using the Update 3 ISO images. The ISO images can be downloaded from your account on Red Hat Network (RHN). Please see additional Knowledgebase articles to assist with locating and downloading the ISO images from RHN.

Workaround: If, for some reason, it is not possible to install the system with Update 3, you can download the driver from Dell's support site. Please consult Dell's documentation or technical support for details on how to install this driver.

Details: These SCSI controllers require version 2.0.8-3 or higher of the aic79xx module. This module is not present in the initial release, Update 1, or Update 2 of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3. Support for these devices was added in the Update 3 release.

Note: The drivers included with the Red Hat Enterprise Linux distribution for the U320 HostRAID adapter (aic79xx) are non-RAID only. If you want the HostRAID adapter to utilize the hardware RAID, you must use the a320 driver from the hardware vendor. This driver is NOT supported by Red Hat. Red Hat will support using the non-RAID driver and configuring the drives using the Software RAID that ships with the operating system.
