In Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Apache is, by default, installed in /etc/httpd. But this path also depends on how apache has been compiled. To know the location where apache is installed, run the following command:

  # httpd -V

The command will generate result similar to this:

  Server's Module Magic Number: 20020903:9
  Architecture:   32-bit
  Server compiled with....
   -D APACHE_MPM_DIR="server/mpm/prefork"

The output of this command displays the line -D HTTPD_ROOT="/etc/httpd" which shows the default location of apache's configuration file.
