Issue:
Where is libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 in Red Hat Enterpise Linux 3, 4 or 5?
Resolution:

libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 is provided by the compat-libstdc++ package.

The package can be obtained from the Red Hat Network. Here are some steps for getting and installing the package:

  1. Login to https://rhn.redhat.com using the RHN login you created when you registered your product.
  2. Once you are logged in, click the Channels tab at the top of the page.
  3. Click on the appropriate channel for your product. For instance, for AS, click Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (v. 3 for x86). (Hint: If you do not see the channel, click view a list of all available software channels at the top of the page. If you still do not see the channel, try registering your product at http://www.redhat.com/now).
  4. Once the channel is up, click the Packages link.
  5. You may search for the package either by letter, or by entering the package name in the Filter by Name: text box.
  6. You may download the package either by clicking on the package name and clicking Download RPM or by clicking the checkbox beside the package name and clicking the Download Packages button at bottom right.
  7. To install the package, login to your system as root, navigate to the directory to which you downloaded the package and enter rpm -ivh name_of_package.arch.rpm
  8. Note:The same applies for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5, except that there are two compat packages. Choose depending on which compilation:

    up2date --install compat-libstdc++-296
    up2date --install compat-libstdc++-33

    On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, use the following commands to download and install the package:

    yum install compat-libstdc++-296
    yum install compat-libstdc++-33
