Issue:
What are the ports used by the Red Hat Directory Server?
Resolution:

Release Found:All Red Hat Directory Server versions

Red Hat Directory Server is a secure, highly scalable robust enterprise-ready Lightweight Directory Access Protocol server (LDAP). The directory server provides a centralized repository and management of intranet, network and user information. It uses access protocol running over TCP/IP and simplified encoding methods.

Generally, IP ports can be any number from 1 to 65535. Port numbers between 1 and 1024 are assigned to various services by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority.

Listed below are guidelines in choosing a port for the Red Hat Directory Server:

    * By default, port 389 is used for standard Directory Server (LDAP) communication
    * Port 636 is assigned for secure LDAP (LDAPS) communication
    * Run the Directory Server as root if its using either port 389 or 636
    * To avoid conflict with other services, refrain from using port numbers below 1024 other than ports 389 and 636 for directory services
    * Use ports that are not already in use. LDAP port needs to be different from the port used by LDAPS.
