Where can I find my subscription number or installation number?

Resolution

The subscription number is a 16-bit number provided by Red Hat to activate subscription service. As the subscription is delivered by many channels, please consult your vendor for the subscription number.

For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, there is an installation number used during installation process. The installation number, sometimes same as a subscription number,  can be found in several places, depending on how the subscription is purchased.

• For purchases made directly from Red Hat or from a reseller:

  • visit  Customer Center

    • you will need to login, see What is my Red Hat login?  What is my RHN login?  How do I get a Red Hat (or RHN) login, and why do I need one? for help with your login ID.

    • visit http://rhn.redhat.com with login ID and click a red icon named Red Hat Customer Center on the left.
    • click Subscriptions tab on Customer Center page and you will find all subscriptions and subscription numbers(or installation numbers) correspondingly.

  • Or, contact Red Hat Customer Service: http://www.redhat.com/about/contact/directory.html#custservice

• For purchases made from Dell:

  • First, activate the service tag: https://www.redhat.com/wapps/activate/protected/dell.html.

  • The subscription number can then be found in the Customer Center

    • visit http://rhn.redhat.com with login ID and click a red icon named Red Hat Customer Center on the left.
    • click Subscriptions tab on Customer Center page and you will find all subscriptions and subscription numbers(or installation numbers) correspondingly.
      

• For purchases from a hardware vendor that included a media kit, refer to the front of the poster included with the media kit.

After a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 installation, if a subscription number was used it will be stored in the file of /etc/sysconfig/rhn/install-num.
