Is it safe to remove the RPM files in /var/spool/up2date?

Article ID: 3195 - Created on: Mar 15, 2008 7:00 PM - Last Modified:  Mar 19, 2008 7:00 PM

On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 or 4 it may eventuate that the /var/spool/up2date directory contains a large number of RPMs and consumes significant disk space. This is most likely to occur if the KeepAfterInstall option is enabled in the up2date configuration.

It is perfectly safe to remove these files; they are simply copies of the installation files downloaded during the update process. Furthermore, to toggle the KeepAfterInstall option run:

up2date --configure
